Cabonargi announces 3 more property tax appeal seminars for Cook County residentsOn Monday, March 28th over 150 taxpayers attended a workshop provided by Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi. The property tax seminar was co-sponsored by State Senator John Mulroe (10th District), Alderman Tim Cullerton (38th Ward), Alderman John Rice (36th Ward), Alderman Pat Levar (45th Ward), and State Representative Joe Lyons (19th District) at the Copernicus Center located at 5216 West Lawrence Avenue. The seminar explained how homeowners can appeal their property assessment and lower their property tax bills.

“We know property values are down and we want to insure no one is paying more than their fair share,” Cabonargi said. “These seminars allow residents to file an appeal and get the information they need to make sure they are fairly assessed.”

In response to dramatic changes in the housing market, Commissioner Cabonargi is organizing taxpayer appeal seminars throughout Cook County. These seminars are opportunities for individual homeowners to seek relief in their property taxes due to a depressed market and over-valuations to their homes.

Cabonargi and his staff were on hand to help taxpayers file appeals that same evening. The only requirement for a review of property assessments is a completed appeal form filed by the township deadline with the Board of Review. Jefferson Township closes for appeals on April 22. Several more workshops will be held in Jefferson Township in April including:

  • Thursday, April 7th at North Park Village (5801 N. Pulaski) 7 PM
  • Saturday, April 9th at Oriole Park (5430 N. Olcott Avenue) 1 PM
  • Monday, April 11th at Merrimac Park (6343 W. Irving Park Road) 6:30 PM

The Cook County Board of Review is a quasi-judicial agency responsible for adjudicating assessment appeals for all property in Cook County. Last year the Board handled over 438,000 appeals. Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi is the Commissioner from the 2nd District of the Cook County Board of Review, which includes Jefferson Township. Please contact Commissioner Cabonargi’s office at (312) 603-5560 with any questions.
