Board of Review open during Cook County furlough day

Commissioner Larry R. Rogers, Jr. would like to inform Cook County taxpayers that the Cook County Board of Review will be open to accept property tax assessment appeals on Friday, April 22, 2011. The President’s office has scheduled this date as the first of five mandatory shut down days; however, taxpayers who wish to file a property tax appeal with the Board of Review may do so on this date. The Board of Review main office, located at 118 N. Clark, Rm. 601, will be open during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on Friday, April 22, 2011. All Board of Review satellite offices will also be open.

Property owners who wish to file a property tax appeal for the following townships must do so by Friday, April 22, 2011:

Bloom Township
Elk Grove Township
Hyde Park Township
Jefferson Township
New Trier Township
Orland Township
Proviso Township

The Board of Review Commissioners are in full support of the County’s initiative to cut government spending and minimize the need for employee layoffs. Commissioners’ Rogers, Cabonargi, and Patlak have worked closely with President Preckwinkle’s office to accommodate the Board of Reviews’ property tax appeal closing deadline of Friday, April 22, 2011, while continuing to adhere to the parameters of the County’s furlough program.

The Board of Review does not assess property, set tax rates, or collect taxes. There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary. Board of Review complaint forms can be obtained at the office of Commissioner Larry R. Rogers, Jr. in the Cook County Building located at 118 N. Clark, Room 601, Chicago, IL 60602. They may also be found on the Board of Review website at: www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
