Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi is announcing the opening of West Chicago, South Chicago, North Chicago, and Lake Townships for property tax assessment appeals. Appeals will be accepted until May 17. Taxpayers can get forms from Commissioner Cabonargi either by calling his office or in person at the Cook County Building, Room 601. In addition, Commissioner Cabonargi will host tax seminars throughout these townships for taxpayers.
“We want to simplify the process and make the Board of Review and the appeal process more accessible to the many communities of Cook County,” Commissioner Cabonargi said. “These workshops are great opportunities for taxpayers to take advantage of the services offered by the Board of Review and to make sure they are not over paying in property taxes.”
Commissioner Cabonargi’s seminar will show taxpayers how to file an appeal and how the appeal process works. Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more efficiently file an appeal. Staff from Commissioner Cabonargi’s office will be available to answer questions and help complete appeal forms. Submitting an appeal is free, and the only requirement for a taxpayer to appeal their property assessment is a completed complaint form filed before the township appeal period closes. The seminars will be held at times and locations shown below:
- Tuesday, May 3rd sponsored by Alderman Solis (25th Ward) at Lozano Library (1805 S. Loomis) at 6 PM
- Wednesday, May 4th sponsored by Alderman Waguespack (32nd Ward) at Holstein Park (2200 N. Oakley Ave.) 6 PM
- Monday, May 9th sponsored by Commissioner Daley (11th District) and Alderman Balcer (11th Ward) at Chicago Community Bank (1110 W. 35th Street) 6:30 PM
