Commissioner Cabonargi Announces Property Tax Seminars throughout Chicago

By at May 10, 2011 | 12:59 pm | Print

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi is hosting seminars on how homeowners can appeal their property assessment and lower their property tax bills.  Taxpayers can get forms from Commissioner Cabonargi either by calling his office or in person at the Cook County Building, Room 601.   West Chicago, North Chicago, South Chicago, and Lake Townships are open for appeals until May 17.  Commissioner Cabonargi is hosting tax seminars throughout these townships for taxpayers.

“We want to simplify the process and make the Board of Review and the appeal process more accessible to the many communities of Cook County,” Commissioner Cabonargi said. “These workshops are great opportunities for taxpayers to take advantage of the services offered by the Board of Review and to make sure they are not over paying in property taxes.”

Commissioner Cabonargi’s seminars show taxpayers how to file an appeal and how the appeal process works.  Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more efficiently file an appeal.  Staff from Commissioner Cabonargi’s office will be available to answer questions and help complete and submit appeal forms.  Submitting an appeal is free, and the only requirement for a taxpayer to appeal their property assessment is a completed complaint form filed before the township appeal period closes.  The following seminars are scheduled at times and locations below:

  • Tuesday, May 10th sponsored by Commissioner Bridget Gainer (10th District) and Alderman Vi Daley (43rd Ward) at Lincoln Park High School (2001 N. Orchard) at 6:30 PM
  • Thursday, May 12th sponsored by Commissioner Larry R. Rogers, Jr. and Alderman Robert Fioretti (2nd Ward) at the Phoenix Military Academy Auditorium (145 S. Campbell) at 6:30 PM
  • Monday, May 16th sponsored by State Representative Toni Berrios (39th District), Commissioner Edwin Reyes (8th District), and Alderman Proco Joe Moreno (1st Ward) at Bernhard Moos Elementary School (1711 N. California) at 6:00 PM
  • Monday, May 16th sponsored by Alderman Zalewski at Mayfield Banquet Hall (6072 S. Archer Ave.) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm
