Robbins Renaissance – President Preckwinkle, along with Mayor Brodie of the Village of Robbins, cut the ribbon to celebrate the new 152-space Robbins Metra Station and Commuter parking facility in Robbins, Illinois on June 13. Also present were Mayor Donald E. Peloquin of Blue Island, Mayor Robert B. Donaldson of Hazel Crest, Ed Paesel of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA), as well as officials from METRA, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.
The Robbins METRA Station and newly constructed Parking Facility is part of the Robbins Renaissance. Robbins, a once thriving, self-sustaining community saw a major decline in the 70’s and 80’s. After completing a comprehensive plan and undertaking a massive delinquent land acquisition program, the Village is now poised to implement its strategic plan that centers around development projects that are sustainable, provide a benefit to the surrounding community and region and ones that will enhance the quality of life of our citizens. Robbins also has various Community Development Block Grant projects that are underway.
