Florence Forshey’s work as a clinical social worker has spanned many decades, profoundly touching the lives of and assisting those in need.
Florence has incorporated the Jane Addams Hull House philosophy of “helping individuals and families help themselves” throughout her long career of serving others. She channeled her passion for those afflicted by domestic violence with the founding of the Illinois Coalition of Domestic Violence. This led to her vision for a home where abused women and children could seek shelter, receive necessary social services and support their transition to greater independence and safety. This residence, opened in 1978, was named Constant Morris House, and continues to serve women and children who are fleeing from abusive relationships.
As a founding member and current Executive Director of the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals organization, Florence continues to serve the community.
